Information about the toll changes in Germany 2019

New prices for German road tax from January 1, 2019

The German government decided earlier this year to increase the toll road network by 40,000 km as well as increased tariffs on existing roads since January 2019. There were formerly approx. 15 000 km of toll roads covered, but as of July 1, 2018 the additional expansions will in total cover approx. 55,000 km taxable toll roads. The new toll road network means increased road tax charges for as well traffic to and from Germany as transit traffic through the country. The charges should, in turn, support the German state to finance a modern, safe and efficient infrastructure in the country.

Road tax fees will be differentiated on a scale depending on the tax level. Crucial factors will be a combination of the number of axles on the vehicle and the environmental rating of the engine. The highest taxation will be against vehicles with 2-4 axles that meet the highest environmental requirements EURO 5 and EURO 6. For this class, this represents an increase of up to 60% compared with the current level.

NTG Continent has most EURO 5 and EURO 6 engines on our trucks, which is the highest requirement according to European Standard.

As road taxes must be charged by law, we consider it necessary to compensate for this cost increase in all these markets from the turn of the year. We are currently working on completing new tariffs before the increase, which will be available on our website in December 2018. New German toll road taxes will come into force on January 1, 2019.

We hope you understand this and look forward against continued good cooperation. For further information please contact your sales contact or regular contact person.
